Course overview

Explore the underwater world of shipwrecks with the SSI Wreck Diving specialty in Cairns, learning safe techniques on Coral Sea and Great Barrier Reef trips. Across two days and several dives you cover surveying, mapping, hazard management and the principles of responsible penetration, building toward depths of up to 30 metres. It is a rewarding specialty for divers drawn to history and structure.

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 15
• SSI Advanced Adventurer or equivalent with deep-dive experience recommended
• Comfort at depths approaching 30 metres
• Diver medical clearance signed where any health condition applies

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Wreck theory and first dives

   Work through the SSI digital wreck academics, then make your first wreck dives focusing on surveying, mapping and hazard awareness.
2. Day2
   Mapping and orientation skills

   Run reel and guideline exercises and practise responsible limited penetration to recreational depths of up to 30 metres, then certify.
