Course overview

Train to handle and prevent diving emergencies with the SSI Diver Stress & Rescue course in Djibouti, set on the calm Gulf of Tadjoura where Red Sea meets Indian Ocean. You learn to spot and defuse stress before it escalates and to manage real rescues through hands-on scenarios at quiet reef sites. It is a confidence-building step on the SSI path toward Divemaster.

What you’ll learn

• Identify and manage diver stress and its causes
• Carry out self-rescue and assist a struggling diver at the surface
• Locate and bring up an unresponsive diver
• Deliver in-water rescue breathing and effective tows
• Plan and lead a coordinated emergency response

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 12 (Junior) or 15
• SSI Advanced Adventurer or equivalent, with navigation experience
• Current React Right (CPR and first aid) or equivalent
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Stress and prevention

   Study stress recognition through SSI materials and begin rescue-skill drills in shallow water.
2. Day2
   Rescue skills

   Practise tows, surface assists and recovering an unresponsive diver at a sheltered reef.
3. Day3
   Scenarios and review

   Run full open-water rescue scenarios on the Gulf of Tadjoura and complete your assessment.
