Course overview

The SSI Open Water Diver course on Tioman certifies you to dive independently with a buddy to 18 metres, a globally recognised qualification earned in one of Malaysia's gentlest classrooms. With calm, warm bays, shallow reefs and resident turtles, Tioman lets you complete your four open-water training dives at easy sites such as the boulder reef off Renggis Island.

What you’ll learn

• Assemble, check and use all your scuba equipment
• Master the essential safety and dive skills
• Achieve and control neutral buoyancy
• Plan dives with a computer or tables
• Respond to common problems and assist a buddy
• Dive independently with a buddy to a maximum of 18 metres

Prerequisites

• No prior certification required
• Minimum age 10 (junior) or 15
• Able to swim and be comfortable in the water
• Completion of a standard diver medical questionnaire

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory and confined water

   SSI academic sessions and the first confined-water skills in a calm Tioman bay.
2. Day2
   Confined water and first dives

   Complete confined-water skills and the first two open-water training dives on a shallow reef.
3. Day3
   Open-water dives and assessment

   Final two open-water dives at sites such as Renggis Island, complete the assessment, then certify.
