Course overview

Become a certified diver with the SSI Open Water Diver course in Key Largo, learning in the warm, calm, clear waters of the Florida Keys. Through digital learning, confined-water sessions and four open-water dives on John Pennekamp's protected reefs, you build every core scuba skill and finish certified to dive to 18 metres worldwide. It's an outstanding place to start your diving journey.

What you’ll learn

• Set up, use and maintain scuba gear
• Perform all essential underwater skills
• Equalise, clear the mask and recover the regulator
• Control buoyancy and manage air supply
• Plan dives with a computer
• Solve common problems and dive safely with a buddy

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10
• No prior certification required
• Able to swim and float comfortably
• Complete a diver medical questionnaire

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Digital theory and confined water

   Complete the SSI digital modules and the first confined-water skill sessions.
2. Day2
   Confined-water skills

   Finish the remaining confined-water dives and skill assessments.
3. Day3
   First open-water dives

   Open-water training dives one and two on a shallow Pennekamp reef such as Molasses Reef.
4. Day4
   Final dives and certification

   Open-water dives three and four, final skill assessment and certification.
