Course overview

Become a certified diver with the SSI Open Water Diver course on Bangaram Island, learning in the calm, clear lagoon of India's remote Lakshadweep atoll resort. Through confined-water sessions and four open-water dives on the coral reefs you build the skills to dive confidently and independently. You finish certified to dive to 18 metres worldwide.

What you’ll learn

• Set up, use and maintain scuba equipment
• Control buoyancy and trim underwater
• Clear your mask and recover your regulator
• Monitor air and plan dives with a computer
• Execute safe descents, ascents and safety stops
• Respond to common underwater problems

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10 (Junior) or 15 for the full rating
• Able to swim and be comfortable in the water
• No prior diving experience required
• Diver medical questionnaire; physician clearance if indicated

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Academics and confined water

   Complete the SSI digital academics and first confined-water skills in the lagoon shallows.
2. Day2
   Skills and first dives

   Finish confined-water training and make your first two open-water dives on Bangaram's reefs.
3. Day3
   Final dives and certification

   Complete the final open-water dives and earn your SSI Open Water Diver rating.
