Course overview

Earn a globally recognised certification with the SSI Open Water Diver course in Ambon on the Banda Sea, training amid world-class critter and macro diving. Through the SSI digital system and four open-water dives in calm Ambon Bay you qualify to dive to 18 metres with a buddy anywhere in the world.

What you’ll learn

• Set up, use and care for scuba equipment
• Perform essential safety skills including mask clearing, regulator recovery and air-sharing
• Achieve neutral buoyancy and efficient propulsion
• Plan dives within no-decompression limits using a computer
• Handle common underwater problems and assist a buddy
• Dive independently with a certified buddy to 18 metres

Prerequisites

• No prior experience or swimming certification required
• Minimum age 10 (junior)
• Basic swimming ability and water comfort (a watermanship assessment is included)
• Complete a medical questionnaire (physician sign-off if any condition applies)

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory & confined water

   Complete the MySSI academics and begin confined-water skill practice in calm shallows.
2. Day2
   Open-water dives 1-2

   Apply your skills on the first two open-water dives over a gentle Ambon Bay reef.
3. Day3
   Open-water dives 3-4 & certification

   Finish the final two open-water dives to a maximum of 18 metres, complete the assessment and certify.
