Course overview

The SSI Open Water Diver course certifies you as an independent diver to 18 metres, earned on the beautiful reefs of Baa Atoll in the Maldives. Using SSI's flexible digital learning, you complete confined-water sessions and four open-water training dives near Dharavandhoo to gain a globally recognised certification.

What you’ll learn

• Set up and use scuba equipment correctly
• Breathe, equalise and move easily underwater
• Master mask clearing and regulator recovery and sharing
• Control buoyancy and perform safe ascents and descents
• Plan dives with a computer and manage your air
• Handle common underwater problems calmly

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10 (Junior) / 15
• No prior experience or swimming certification required
• Comfortable swimming and floating
• Reasonable health - a diver medical questionnaire applies

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Digital theory & confined water

   Work through the MySSI Open Water modules and practise skills in shallow, confined water.
2. Day2
   Open-water dives 1 & 2

   Apply your skills on the first two training dives on a house reef near Dharavandhoo.
3. Day3
   Open-water dives 3 & 4

   Complete the final training dives to 18 m and certify as an SSI Open Water Diver.
