Course overview

SSI Night Diving on the Perhentian Islands opens up the reef after sunset, when octopus, moray eels and lionfish come out to hunt. Across guided night dives in the sheltered bays off Long Beach you learn light handling, after-dark navigation and how to stay oriented and connected with your buddy in the dark.

What you’ll learn

• Plan and carry out safe night dives
• Handle primary and backup torches and use light signals
• Navigate and keep orientation after dark
• Maintain buddy contact using lights
• Spot and identify nocturnal marine life

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 12
• SSI Open Water Diver or qualifying certification
• Basic buoyancy and navigation comfort
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

1. Day1
   Theory and night dives

   Digital night-diving theory and briefing, then guided night dives off Long Beach practising lights, signals and orientation, ending in certification.
