Course overview

See the reef transform after dark with the SSI Night Diving & Limited Visibility certification in North Malé Atoll. Across three night dives on house reefs you learn light handling, navigation and communication in the dark, watching hunting reef sharks, sleeping turtles and the nocturnal life that emerges on the atoll's reefs.

What you’ll learn

• Plan and organise a safe night dive
• Use a primary and backup light and night signals
• Navigate and maintain orientation in the dark
• Communicate with light signals and stay with your buddy
• Identify nocturnal marine life and behaviour

Prerequisites

• SSI Open Water Diver or equivalent
• Minimum age 12
• Completion of a diver medical questionnaire; physician sign-off if required

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Pre-dive theory

   Complete the knowledge development and dive-planning material before the in-water sessions, online or at the dive base.
2. Day2
   Theory & first night dive

   Cover night-diving theory and light handling, then make your first dusk-into-dark dive on a house reef.
3. Day3
   Night navigation & assessment

   Complete further night dives practising navigation and communication, then certify.
