Course overview

The SSI Night Diving specialty in Muscat reveals Oman's reefs after dark, where Bandar Khayran and nearby sites buzz with active octopus, lionfish and crustaceans. Through SSI's digital theory and a set of guided night dives you build the light-handling, navigation and communication skills for safe nocturnal diving. You finish certified as an SSI Night Diver.

What you’ll learn

• Plan and execute dives in darkness
• Handle primary and backup torches and give light signals
• Navigate and orient yourself at night
• Stay in close contact and communicate with your buddy
• Spot and identify nocturnal reef species
• Manage entries, exits and the dive site after dark

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 12
• SSI Open Water Diver (or equivalent)
• Comfortable with buoyancy and basic navigation
• Medical statement and physician sign-off where indicated

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Digital theory & first night dives

   Complete SSI night-diving modules and dive after dark at a sheltered Muscat reef, practising light use.
2. Day2
   Night navigation & certification

   Run a navigation-focused night dive at Bandar Khayran observing nocturnal life, then certify.
