Course overview

Experience the reef in a whole new way with the SSI Night Diving (Night & Limited Visibility) specialty in Moalboal, Cebu. Diving the shore-accessible Panagsama Beach house reef after dark, you learn light handling and night navigation while watching octopus, lionfish and crustaceans take over the reef. You finish with the SSI Night Diving certification.

What you’ll learn

• Plan night and limited-visibility dives
• Handle primary and backup lights and signal with them
• Navigate and stay with your buddy in the dark
• Recognise nocturnal marine life and behaviour
• Maintain buoyancy and orientation with few visual cues
• Manage disorientation and emergencies at night

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 12 (junior) / 15
• SSI Open Water Diver or equivalent
• Comfortable buoyancy and basic navigation
• Diver medical questionnaire / physician's clearance where indicated

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Light handling

   Academic review and a first night dive on the Panagsama house reef focusing on light use and communication.
2. Day2
   Navigation & marine life

   Further night dives practising navigation and spotting nocturnal life such as octopus and lionfish.
