Course overview

Experience Koh Tao's reefs after sunset with the SSI Night Diving specialty. Diving calm sites such as Japanese Gardens and Twins by torchlight, you learn night navigation and light signalling while encountering octopus, hunting lionfish and the bioluminescence that lights up the dark water.

What you’ll learn

• Plan and safely conduct dives after dark
• Communicate with torch signals at night
• Navigate and stay oriented in low light
• Control buoyancy and team position by torchlight
• Spot and identify nocturnal marine life
• Manage night entries, descents and exits

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 12
• SSI Open Water Diver or equivalent
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory & sunset briefing

   Complete the SSI night-diving theory and review torch signals before dusk.
2. Day1
   First night dive

   Dive after dark at a sheltered site such as Twins, practising light signals and night navigation.
3. Day1
   Further night dives

   More dives encountering octopus and bioluminescence while building low-light confidence.
