Course overview

Experience the Florida Keys reef after dark with the SSI Night Diving specialty in Key Largo. Diving John Pennekamp's reefs once the sun has set, you learn light use, night communication and orientation while watching nocturnal life come out. You finish certified to safely enjoy Key Largo's reefs after sunset.

What you’ll learn

• Plan and conduct safe night dives
• Handle primary and backup lights properly
• Use light-based communication signals
• Maintain navigation and orientation in the dark
• Observe and identify nocturnal marine life
• Manage entries, exits and buddy contact at night

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 12
• SSI Open Water Diver or equivalent certification
• Comfortable basic buoyancy and navigation
• Medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Digital theory and night dives

   Complete the SSI Night Diving module, then dive after sunset on a Pennekamp reef site to finish the specialty.
