Course overview

Experience the reef after sunset with the SSI Night Diving & Limited Visibility specialty out of Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz Island. Torch in hand on the sheltered rock reefs and sand flats around Santa Cruz, you watch resting turtles, hunting sea lions and the nocturnal reef come to life. You earn the SSI Night Diving certification on completion.

What you’ll learn

• Plan and run a night or low-visibility dive with primary and backup lights
• Use light signals and stay in buddy contact in darkness
• Navigate at night by compass and natural reference
• Identify nocturnal marine life and behaviour
• Handle disorientation, entries and exits after dark

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 12 (Junior)
• SSI Open Water Diver or equivalent
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician
