Course overview

The SSI Navigation specialty builds the skills to stay oriented on the large reef systems and channels of Baa Atoll in the Maldives. Through SSI's digital training and dives near Dharavandhoo, you learn compass and natural navigation so you can explore the atoll with greater confidence and independence.

What you’ll learn

• Navigate precisely with a compass
• Read natural features like reef contours and sand ripples
• Estimate distance using kick cycles and timing
• Run navigation patterns and reciprocal courses
• Mark and relocate points of interest underwater

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10 (Junior) / 15
• SSI Open Water Diver or equivalent certification
• Basic buoyancy comfort
• Diver medical clearance form (physician sign-off if needed)

   Digital theory plus training dives on local reefs practising compass headings, natural references and site relocation.
