Course overview

Understand the reef you dive with the SSI Marine Ecology & Fish Identification programme in Fiji, drawing on Beqa Lagoon and Pacific Harbour's exceptional biodiversity. Through classroom-led, expert instruction you learn to identify Fiji's reef fish, invertebrates and turtles and grasp how its soft-coral ecosystems function. It deepens every future dive and supports the conservation of these reefs.

Prerequisites

• No diving certification required for the classroom programme
• Open Water Diver recommended if combining with reef dives
• Interest in marine life and reef conservation
• Minimum age per SSI standards for the certification level

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Ecology & identification

   Classroom session on Fiji's reef ecosystems, fish families and invertebrates with expert-led visual aids.
2. Day2
   Application & conservation

   Practise identification, optionally on a Beqa Lagoon reef dive, and discuss conservation of Fiji's soft-coral reefs.
