Course overview

Step up to teaching scuba with the SSI Instructor Training programme (Open Water Instructor) in Moalboal, Cebu. Training along the sheltered Panagsama Beach house reef, with its shallow confined-water shelf and a wall plunging past 50 metres minutes from shore, gives candidates an ideal stage to master the SSI teaching system and skill demonstrations before the Instructor Evaluation. You leave certified to run SSI programmes and issue digital certifications of your own.

What you’ll learn

• Teach SSI academic sessions, pool/confined-water and open-water training using the SSI Total Teaching System
• Demonstrate and evaluate scuba skills to instructor standard
• Apply SSI training standards, safety procedures and student risk management
• Plan, brief and conduct open-water training dives along the reef
• Use the SSI digital platform to manage student records and certifications
• Prepare thoroughly for the Instructor Evaluation

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 18
• SSI Dive Guide / Divemaster or equivalent leadership certification
• SSI Science of Diving or equivalent dive-theory certification
• Recognised EFR / CPR & first-aid instructor rating
• At least 6 months as a certified diver with the required logged dives
• Diver medical questionnaire / physician's clearance where indicated

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Teaching foundations

   Orientation to the SSI Total Teaching System and your first academic teaching presentations.
2. Day2
   Confined-water workshops

   Rehearse skill demonstrations and teaching on the shallow shelf of the Panagsama house reef.
3. Day3
   Open-water teaching

   Lead open-water teaching presentations and skill circuits along the reef wall under evaluation.
4. Day4
   Standards & risk management

   Work through SSI standards, dive-centre procedures and risk management.
5. Day5
   Theory & rescue assessment

   Complete dive-theory exams and the rescue assessment to instructor standard.
6. Day6
   Evaluation preparation

   Mock presentations and a full briefing for the SSI Instructor Evaluation.
