Course overview

Earn your SSI Divemaster on the Perhentian Islands and become a dive professional able to guide certified divers and support instructors. Training from the sheltered bays of Perhentian Kecil out to the reefs, the Pinnacle (Tokong Laut) and the island's wrecks builds the real-world leadership and judgement that SSI's experience-based progression is built around.

What you’ll learn

• Guide and supervise certified divers on real dives
• Support an instructor during student training sessions
• Plan and lead dive briefings, site assessments and risk management
• Demonstrate dive skills to a clear, repeatable standard
• Run dive-site mapping and emergency-management scenarios
• Apply dive-theory knowledge to practical dive leadership

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 18
• SSI Advanced Adventurer or equivalent certification
• SSI Diver Stress and Rescue (or qualifying rescue certification)
• Current first aid and CPR (React Right) certification
• At least 40 logged dives to begin (60 recommended toward certification)
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Orientation and theory

   Programme overview, SSI dive-theory study and the responsibilities of a Divemaster.
2. Day2
   Watermanship and skills

   Stamina assessments and demonstration-quality skills practice in calm water off Long Beach.
3. Day3
   Practical workshops

   Dive-site mapping and emergency-management scenarios on local reefs.
4. Day4
   Guiding internship

   Lead certified divers and support instructors at sites such as the Pinnacle and the Sugar Wreck.
5. Day5
   Assessment and certification

   Final theory and skills assessments and sign-off as an SSI Divemaster.
