Course overview

Experience the Great Barrier Reef for the first time with the SSI Try Scuba experience in Cairns, an introductory dive that needs no certification or prior experience. With an instructor at your side you learn a few basic skills and make a guided reef dive to a maximum of 12 metres on a Cairns outer-reef day trip. It is the simplest way to discover what diving among coral, turtles and tropical fish feels like.

What you’ll learn

• Breathe comfortably underwater on scuba for the first time
• Equalise your ears and clear your mask
• Recover and breathe from your regulator underwater
• Control your position and move with fins under instructor guidance
• Follow a guide on a shallow, supervised reef dive

Prerequisites

• No diving experience or swimming certification required
• Minimum age 10
• Reasonable health and comfort in water
• Complete a short medical questionnaire before diving
