Course overview

The SSI Deep Diving specialty in Papua New Guinea extends your range to the 40 m recreational limit on the region's seamount walls and deeper wrecks. Exploring Kimbe Bay's steep coral slopes and a WWII-era wreck in deeper water, you build the planning, gas-management and narcosis-awareness skills that deep diving demands. It opens access to many of Papua New Guinea's most spectacular deep sites.

What you’ll learn

• Plan and execute dives to a maximum of 40 m
• Manage gas supply and no-decompression limits at depth
• Recognise and respond to nitrogen narcosis
• Use redundant air and appropriate deep-diving equipment
• Track light, colour and temperature changes with depth
• Use descent and ascent reference lines for control

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 15
• SSI Advanced Adventurer or equivalent recommended
• Comfortable with deeper-water buoyancy and gas planning
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Academics & first deep dives

   SSI deep-dive theory and narcosis awareness, then progressive dives on a Kimbe Bay seamount wall.
2. Day2
   Depth dives & certification

   Complete deep dives toward the 40 m limit on a deeper reef or wreck, then certify with SSI.
