Course overview

Reach the recreational depth limit with the SSI Deep Diving specialty in Hikkaduwa, where deeper reef ledges and wrecks draw divers below 18 metres on Sri Lanka's south coast. Over four dives you learn to plan and conduct deep dives safely to a maximum of 40 metres, managing gas, time and narcosis. You finish certified as an SSI Deep Diver, qualified within recreational deep limits.

What you’ll learn

• Plan and conduct dives to recreational deep limits
• Track no-decompression time and gas reserves at depth
• Identify and manage nitrogen narcosis
• Deploy a surface-marker buoy and hold a safety stop
• Apply contingency and turn-pressure planning
• Understand the effects of depth on light and colour

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 15
• SSI Advanced Adventurer or equivalent open-water experience
• Sound buoyancy and air management
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory & first deep dives

   Digital deep-diving academics, planning and two dives extending gradually beyond 18 metres.
2. Day2
   Depth & certification dives

   Two further dives toward 40 metres with narcosis and gas-management exercises to certify.
