Course overview

Get a real taste of certified diving with the SSI Basic Diver course on Mauritius's sheltered west coast. Over two days from Flic-en-Flac you learn core scuba skills in the calm lagoon and make supervised open-water dives to around 12 metres on shallow reefs full of clownfish and parrotfish. It is an ideal stepping stone that credits toward the full SSI Open Water Diver certification.

What you’ll learn

• Assemble and use scuba equipment
• Breathe, equalise and descend safely
• Clear your mask and recover your regulator underwater
• Control basic buoyancy and move efficiently
• Communicate with hand signals and stay with your buddy
• Make supervised open-water dives to around 12 metres

Prerequisites

• No experience or swimming certification required
• Minimum age 10
• Reasonable comfort in water
• Able to complete a medical questionnaire (clearance if any condition applies)

1. Day1
   Theory and confined water

   Introduction to scuba and core skills practised in the calm Flic-en-Flac lagoon.
2. Day2
   Open-water dives

   Two supervised dives to around 12 metres on a shallow west-coast reef, then certification.
