Course overview

Get your first real diving qualification with the SSI Basic Diver / Scuba Diver programme out of Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz Island. Over a couple of days you complete confined-water skills and supervised open-water dives in sheltered Galapagos shallows where sea lions and turtles are common, earning a recognised entry-level rating that lets you dive with a professional. It's a faster path to certification than a full Open Water course.

The SSI Basic Diver pathway

SSI Scuba Diver is a recognised entry-level certification that lets you dive under the supervision of an SSI professional to 12 metres. It is a partial completion of the Open Water Diver course and can be upgraded by finishing the remaining modules and dives.

Where you'll dive in Galapagos

Training uses the sheltered, low-current sites near Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz, such as Santa Fe and the calm bays where sea lions and green turtles gather. These protected shallows are ideal for a first certification away from the archipelago's stronger currents.
