Course overview

Earn the PADI Wreck Diver specialty in Trincomalee, a region famous for the WWII wreck of HMS Hermes lying off the coast and several smaller wrecks along the Nilaveli shoreline. Over four dives you learn to survey, map and safely explore wrecks, building the skills to dive these historic structures responsibly. It is one of the most rewarding specialties to complete on Sri Lanka's east coast.

What you’ll learn

• Plan and execute safe wreck dives
• Survey and map a wreck to understand its layout
• Use penetration lines and reels (where appropriate)
• Manage hazards such as sharp edges, silt-out and entanglement
• Avoid disturbing wrecks and their marine life
• Apply navigation and buoyancy in and around wrecks

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 15
• PADI Adventure Diver or Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent)
• Comfortable with buoyancy and navigation
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Survey & mapping

   After a wreck-diving briefing, dive a Trincomalee wreck to practise external survey and mapping.
2. Day2
   Exploration & lines

   Complete the remaining wreck dives, working with reels and lines and finishing the specialty certification.
