Course overview

Explore sunken history with the PADI Wreck Diver specialty, ideally placed at Khao Lak where the Boon Sung wreck, a former Thai tin-mining dredger, sits just offshore. Over four dives you learn safe wreck-diving techniques on this artificial reef teeming with fish, earning a certification that opens up the region's wrecks and contributes toward Master Scuba Diver.

What you’ll learn

• Plan and execute safe wreck dives within recreational limits
• Survey and map a wreck to estimate hazards and points of interest
• Use penetration lines and reels for safe limited entry
• Avoid silt-out, entanglement and sharp-edge hazards
• Manage buoyancy and trim around delicate wreck structures
• Identify the marine life that colonises a wreck

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 15 (15 for Wreck Diver)
• PADI Adventure Diver or Advanced Open Water Diver
• Comfortable with buoyancy control
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory & first wreck dives

   Cover wreck-diving theory and complete the first two dives on the Boon Sung dredger wreck, practising surveying and mapping.
2. Day2
   Mapping & penetration

   Complete two further dives focused on line-handling, careful navigation and, where suitable, limited penetration, then certify.
