Course overview

The PADI Rescue Diver course on Tioman transforms you from a confident diver into a calm, capable problem-solver who can prevent and manage emergencies. Practising self-rescue and diver-assist scenarios in the calm, warm water of Tioman's sheltered bays, you learn to spot trouble early and respond with confidence, in what many divers describe as the most rewarding course they take.

What you’ll learn

• Recognise and manage diver stress before it becomes an emergency
• Perform self-rescue and respond to tired and panicked divers
• Search for and surface an unresponsive diver
• Deliver in-water rescue breaths and tow a diver to safety
• Plan and coordinate an emergency assistance and missing-diver response
• Manage equipment problems and surface and underwater incidents

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 12 (Junior Rescue Diver) or 15 for Rescue Diver
• PADI Adventure Diver or Advanced Open Water (with underwater navigation) or equivalent
• Current Emergency First Response or equivalent CPR and first-aid training (within 24 months)
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Rescue theory and self-rescue

   Complete the knowledge reviews and practise self-rescue and stress recognition in a calm Tioman bay.
2. Day2
   Rescue skills

   Work through the ten core rescue exercises, from tired-diver tows to surfacing an unresponsive diver.
3. Day3
   Scenarios and assessment

   Run full emergency scenarios and the missing-diver response at a sheltered reef site, then certify.
