Course overview

Develop the awareness and confidence to prevent and manage dive emergencies with the PADI Rescue Diver course in Raja Ampat. The region's strong tidal currents, large dive groups and remote location make rescue skills genuinely relevant here, with scenario training run in sheltered shallows near Mansuar Island and confidence-building dives on calmer local reefs.

What you’ll learn

• Recognise and prevent diver stress before it escalates
• Manage tired, panicked and unresponsive divers at the surface
• Search for and recover a missing diver
• Surface and submerged rescue and tow techniques
• Administer in-water rescue breathing and emergency exits
• Plan and coordinate an emergency response in a remote setting

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 12 (Junior Rescue Diver) or 15 for Rescue Diver
• PADI Adventure Diver or Advanced Open Water (with Underwater Navigation)
• Emergency First Response primary and secondary care within 24 months
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Knowledge and self-rescue

   Complete the theory and exam, then practise self-rescue and stress recognition.
2. Day2
   Rescue skill exercises

   Work through the ten rescue exercises in calm water near Mansuar Island.
3. Day3
   Tows and unresponsive diver

   Practise tired-diver tows, surfacing an unresponsive diver and rescue breathing.
4. Day4
   Scenarios and certification

   Complete the two full rescue scenarios and earn your Rescue Diver rating.
