Course overview

Step up to becoming a calmer, more capable diver with the PADI Rescue Diver course in Komodo, learning to prevent and manage problems in conditions that genuinely test you. Practising self-rescue and assisting others amid Komodo's tidal currents builds judgement that pays off on every future dive. You finish certified to handle diver emergencies and prepared for divemaster training.

What you’ll learn

• Recognise and manage diver stress before it becomes an emergency
• Perform self-rescue and tired-diver assists
• Respond to panicked divers at the surface and underwater
• Search for, surface and tow an unresponsive diver
• Deliver in-water rescue breaths and manage the exit
• Plan and coordinate an emergency-management response

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 12 (Junior Rescue Diver under 15)
• PADI Adventure Diver with Underwater Navigation, or Advanced Open Water Diver
• Emergency First Response (or equivalent) training within the last 24 months
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Knowledge and self-rescue

   Complete the eLearning review and practise self-rescue and stress-recognition skills.
2. Day2
   Rescue exercises

   Work through the ten rescue exercises, from tired-diver tows to surfacing an unresponsive diver.
3. Day3
   Scenarios and certification

   Run full rescue scenarios in real conditions, then certify as a PADI Rescue Diver.
