The PADI Open Water Diver course is the world's most popular scuba certification, qualifying you to dive independently with a buddy to 18m. Zanzibar is an ideal place to learn, with calm, warm water and the shallow reefs of Mnemba Atoll, where students routinely complete training dives among corals, reef fish and the occasional dolphin.

The PADI Open Water Diver pathway

The PADI Open Water Diver course certifies you to dive independently with a buddy to 18m worldwide. It comprises knowledge development, five confined-water dives and four open-water dives, and is the gateway to all further PADI training.

Where you'll dive in Zanzibar

Open Water training dives mostly take place on the sheltered reefs of Mnemba Atoll, building from around 12m to the 18m certification limit, with calm, clear July-to-February conditions and frequent turtle and dolphin sightings.
