Earn your PADI Open Water Diver certification in North Malé Atoll, the closest atoll to Malé airport and an easy speedboat transfer from your resort. You train on calm, sandy-bottomed lagoons and gentle house reefs before progressing to open-water dives among turtles, sweetlips and reef fish, finishing licensed to dive independently with a buddy to 18 metres worldwide.
The PADI Open Water Diver course follows PADI's globally recognised performance-based standards; the certification has no expiry and qualifies you to dive to 18 metres. It is the natural lead-in to the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course.
Training uses the sheltered lagoons and shallow house reefs of North Malé Atoll's resort islands, with easy boat access to gentle reef sites ideal for first dives. The diving season peaks from November to April, when visibility is best across North Malé Atoll's channels and reefs, with warm 27-30°C water year-round and moderate currents on the channel sites.
