Course overview

See the reef transform after dark with the PADI Night Diver specialty in Malta and Gozo, where calm, clear water makes night diving accessible and spectacular. Under torchlight you encounter octopus, moray eels and cuttlefish that are far bolder after sunset, and learn the light signals, navigation and buoyancy that night diving demands. You finish certified as a PADI Night Diver.

What you’ll learn

• Plan and execute a night dive safely
• Communicate with torch and light signals
• Navigate and maintain orientation in darkness
• Control buoyancy when visual references are limited
• Identify nocturnal marine life and behaviour
• Manage entries, exits and buddy contact at night

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 12
• PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver or equivalent
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   First night dive

   Theory plus your first night dive at a calm shore site, learning light signals and orientation in the dark.
2. Day2
   Night navigation & life

   Two further night dives focused on navigation, buoyancy and spotting nocturnal octopus, morays and cuttlefish, then certification.
