Course overview

The PADI Underwater Navigator specialty on Tioman sharpens one of diving's most useful skills, letting you find your way confidently around the island's boulder mazes and reef sites. Across three dives you master compass headings, natural navigation and distance estimation, so you can lead a dive and return reliably to your exit point.

What you’ll learn

• Navigate accurately using a compass on reciprocal and square patterns
• Use natural references such as reef contours and boulder formations
• Estimate distance by kick cycles and time
• Mark and relocate a submerged object or exit point
• Manage navigation while leading a buddy team
• Recover from disorientation and re-establish a heading

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10
• PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver or equivalent
• Basic comfort with buoyancy control
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

1. Day1
   Compass and natural navigation

   Knowledge review, then dives practising compass patterns and natural references among Tioman's boulder reefs, finishing with a navigation-leadership exercise and certification.
