Cross over from leading dives to teaching them with the PADI Instructor Development Course in the Seychelles, a granite-island archipelago in the heart of the Indian Ocean. Candidates rehearse teaching presentations in the calm, protected waters off Beau Vallon and refine open-water teaching on the boulder reefs and shallow coral gardens around Mahé before sitting the independent Instructor Examination. You finish the IDC ready to certify your own divers and join the worldwide community of PADI professionals.
The PADI IDC trains and assesses you against PADI standards, then prepares you for the Instructor Examination, which is conducted independently by a PADI Examiner. On passing the IE you become a teaching member of PADI, the Open Water Scuba Instructor rating, with access to professional insurance and the global PADI jobs network.
Teaching workshops use the sheltered bay at Beau Vallon, where calm-to-moderate conditions and 26-30C water make a forgiving classroom, with open-water presentations on nearby granite-boulder sites such as the Coral Garden and Bay Ternay Marine Park. The peak teaching windows fall around April-May and September-November; the independent Instructor Examination is conducted separately by a PADI Examiner at a designated IE location.
