Course overview

Learn to fly with the current on the PADI Drift Diver specialty in Komodo, arguably the world's finest classroom for drift technique. You master streamlining, buoyancy and group positioning as you glide along sites like the Golden Passage and the Shotgun, where tidal flow does the swimming for you. You finish certified as a PADI Drift Diver and ready to enjoy Komodo's signature dives.

What you’ll learn

• Plan and conduct safe drift dives with the current
• Maintain buoyancy and trim while drifting
• Stay positioned with your buddy and group in flow
• Use a surface marker buoy and reel for drift exits
• Read currents, eddies and down-currents
• Streamline gear to move efficiently

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 12 (Junior Open Water Diver)
• PADI Open Water Diver or equivalent
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory and drift dives

   Cover drift-diving planning and current-reading, then complete two drift dives on flowing sites such as the Golden Passage, finishing with certification.
