Course overview

The PADI Divemaster course is your first professional rating, qualifying you to guide certified divers and assist instructors with students. Set against Zanzibar's varied sites, you build stamina and supervision skills mapping the reefs off Stone Town and leading divers around Mnemba Atoll and Tumbatu through the long July-to-February season.

What you’ll learn

• Supervise and guide certified divers on reef and wall sites
• Assist a PADI Instructor with student divers in confined and open water
• Conduct dive briefings, site mapping and dive management
• Demonstrate all 24 core scuba skills to a high standard
• Run dive-rescue scenarios and manage diver emergencies
• Apply dive theory in physics, physiology, equipment and the RDP

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 18
• PADI Advanced Open Water (or qualifying certification from another agency)
• PADI Rescue Diver certification
• EFR (primary and secondary care) within the last 24 months
• At least 40 logged dives to begin and 60 to certify
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory & assessment

   Divemaster knowledge reviews, dive-theory exams and the swim/stamina assessments.
2. Day2
   Skills & rescue

   Demonstration-quality skills circuit and the diver-rescue evaluation in open water.
3. Day3
   Practical application

   Assist instructor-led training and lead briefings on reefs off Stone Town and Mnemba.
4. Day4
   Mapping & certification

   Complete a dive-site mapping project and final practical sign-offs to certify.
