Course overview

Earn your first professional rating with the PADI Divemaster course at Kovalam, learning to guide certified divers and assist instructors along Kerala's Arabian Sea coast. Working the warm reef sites off Kovalam and the school's training quarry, you build the stamina, judgement and dive-management skills needed to lead divers safely. The certification opens the door to working in the dive industry worldwide.

What you’ll learn

• Guide certified divers and conduct dive briefings and site assessments
• Demonstrate all 24 PADI dive skills to demonstration quality
• Assist an instructor with students in confined and open water
• Map a dive site and plan dives for groups
• Manage dive logistics, risk and emergency procedures
• Complete dive-theory exams and stamina/watermanship assessments

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 18
• PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or qualifying certification)
• PADI Rescue Diver certification
• Emergency First Response (primary and secondary care) within 24 months
• At least 40 logged dives to begin (60 to certify)
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Orientation and theory

   Programme overview, dive-theory study and the watermanship/stamina assessments.
2. Day2
   Skills to demonstration quality

   Polish all 24 core skills until they meet demonstration-quality standard.
3. Day3
   Practical workshops

   Site mapping, dive-leadership scenarios and search-and-recovery on the Kovalam reef.
4. Day4
   Course internship

   Assist an instructor with real students in the training quarry and open water.
5. Day5
   Risk and emergency management

   Rescue review, emergency planning and dive-management exercises.
6. Day6
   Final assessment and certification

   Complete exams, debrief the internship and certify as a PADI Divemaster.
