Course overview

The PADI Deep Diver specialty extends your safe diving range to a maximum of 40m and teaches you to manage the unique challenges of depth. Zanzibar's deeper walls and pinnacles, including sites off Matemwe that drop toward 40m and the deeper Stone Town wreck, are ideal training grounds with their clear, warm water.

What you’ll learn

• Plan and execute dives to a maximum of 40 metres
• Recognise and manage nitrogen narcosis at depth
• Monitor gas, no-decompression limits and safety stops carefully
• Use and respond to a contingency / decompression cylinder setup
• Assess the effects of pressure and colour loss at depth
• Apply specialised deep-dive planning and buddy procedures

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 15
• PADI Adventure Diver or Advanced Open Water (with the deep adventure dive)
• Solid buoyancy control and gas management
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Deep fundamentals

   Theory plus the first two dives building experience between 18 and 30m on Zanzibar's walls and pinnacles.
2. Day2
   To forty metres

   Two further dives progressing toward 40m off Matemwe or a deep wreck, with narcosis and contingency drills, to certify.
